Sharad Navratri 2020 -6. Katyayani

Today is day 6 of the auspicious nine days of Navratri which is dedicated to goddess Katyayani. Navratri celebrates the nine avatars of the goddess Durga and each day is dedicated to one avatar. Since there are different avatars of the goddess, each of them signify a particular colour too. Devi Katyayani is the daughter of sage Katyayan, and got her name from her father.   This Goddesses has four hands, she has a sword in one hand, a lotus in the other hand. She has one right hand in fearless form and the other in boon posture. She rides a lion. She is revered as the presiding deity of Vrajamandal. Their forms are very grand and divine. Their colors are shiny and phosphor like gold.  Maa Katyayani is considered particularly important for unmarried girls. The fifth form of Maa Durga is known as Skandamata. She was named Skanda Mata due to being the mother of Lord Skanda. Lord Skanda is also known as 'Kumar Karthikeya'. He was the commander of the gods in the famous Devasur-Sangram. In the Puranas, his glory is described as Kumar and Shaktidhar . Lord Skanda's vehicle is pecock . Therefore, He is also called as Mayur Vahana .  Its color is completely white and rides on the lion. She is also known as Padmasana Devi, because she holds the seat of the lotus. The goddess is worshiped as Kushmanda on the fourth day in Navratri. This goddess has been named as Kushmanda because of her slow, light laughter causing the universe came into being. When there was no creation, there was darkness all around, then this goddess created the universe with her humor. That is why it has been called Adi Swaroopa or Adishakti of the universe. The vehicle of this goddess is Leo. This goddess lives in the world within the solar system. Only he has the power to live in the solar system. That is why the brightness of her body is as bright as that of the sun. Ten directions are bright with her lightness. This goddess has eight arms, hence she is called Ashtabhuja. "Goddess Chandraghanta" is worshiped on the third day. This day is dedicated to the color red. Devi Chandraghanta rides a tigress and wears a crescent on her forehead. Since the half-moon on his forehead looks like a bell and because of this he is known as lunar-bell. She has ten hands and his four left hands are holding the trident, mace, sword and kamandala and the fifth hand is placed in the left boon posture. She holds a lotus flower, arrow, bow and chanting garland in her four right hands and holds the fifth hand in safe pose (Abhaya Mudra).  Though this is a peaceful form of the goddess and is believed that it gives you the strength to fight all your fears. Today is October 14, 2020 and Sharad is the second day of Navratri, Goddess Brahmacharini is worshipped on this day. The form of Brahmacharini Devi is fully lit and very magnificent. The garland of chanting in her right hand “Kamandalu” remains in the left hand. This day is devoted to green colour. Goddess Brahmacharini did severe penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband. The Devi Mahatmya or Devi Mahatmyam or "The Glory of the Goddess" is a Hindu religious text describing the Goddess as the supreme power and creator of the universe. It is part of the Markandeya Purana. Devi Mahatmyam is also known as the “Durgā Saptashatī”. The text arranged into 13 chapters.
