Today is day 6 of the auspicious nine days of Navratri which is dedicated to goddess Katyayani. Navratri celebrates the nine avatars of the goddess Durga and each day is dedicated to one avatar. Since there are different avatars of the goddess, each of them signify a particular colour too. Devi Katyayani is the daughter of sage Katyayan, and got her name from her father.   This Goddesses has four hands, she has a sword in one hand, a lotus in the other hand. The fifth form of Maa Durga is known as Skandamata. She was named Skanda Mata due to being the mother of Lord Skanda. Lord Skanda is also known as 'Kumar Karthikeya'. "Goddess Chandraghanta" is worshiped on the third day. This day is dedicated to the color red. Devi Chandraghanta rides a tigress and wears a crescent on her forehead.
