“Tsunami” Risk Reduction Plans
The first thing we should know is, what is a "tsunami"? The words "tsunami" include the Japanese words "su" (meaning harbor) and "nami" (meaning wave). Tsunamis are a series of massive waves created by underwater turbulence that are commonly associated with earthquakes coming under or near the ocean. Tsunamis can also occur due to volcanic eruptions, underwater landslides and coastal rock falls. In December 2015, the United Nations General Assembly designated November 5 as World Tsunami Awareness Day, with an emphasis on increasing tsunami awareness to countries, international bodies and civil society. The main objective of which is to reduce the risk and share the steps taken for it. World Tsunami Awareness Day was the brainchild of Japan, which built major expertise in areas such as pre warnings, public action and improved construction in advance of the tsunami disaster to mitigate future impacts over the years.
